Two lanes of the A1(M) northbound are closed between Junction 8 for Stevenage and Junction 9 for Letchworth Gate because of an overturned vehicle.
One lane remains open, but traffic is queuing with vehicles being diverted through Graveley.
Motorists are being warned to expect delays of up to 50 minutes.
