Witnesses to a three-car crash on the A602 which required a man to be cut free have been urged by police to come forward.
Investigating officer Chris Payne said he was ‘confident’ someone will have important information about the crash, which took place on Stevenage Road between Stevenage and Hitchin just before 5pm on Wednesday.
A yellow Fiat Multipla – for reasons unknown at this stage – collided with an orange Kia Sportage as the carriageway heading into Hitchin reduces from two lanes into one, before colliding with a silver Vauxhall Astra.
The driver of the Fiat, a 30-year-old man from Luton, needed to be cut free from his car and was then taken to the Lister Hospital in Stevenage with slight injuries. No-one else was injured.
The road had to be closed for 30 minutes but congestion took about 2½ hours to clear.
“The road was busy at this time and I would urge anyone who saw what happened or any events leading up to it to please contact me with information,” said PC Payne.
“No witnesses were at the scene when officers arrived but I am confident someone will have seen something which could be of assistance.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police on non-emergency number 101.
