Two people have been taken to hospital this morning after a crash involving up to five vehicles on the A1(M) near Stevenage.

Emergency services were called to the southbound stretch of the motorway just past Junction 7 for Stevenage after reports of a collision involving up to five vehicles at about 7.45am.

Ambulance crews were on the scene within three minutes, with two people taken to Lister Hospital in the town for their injuries – which are not believed to be life threatening.

Recovery team arrived at 8.30am to remove three vehicles, but traffic remains heavy in both directions of the A1(M), in Stevenage and going through Knebworth.

Update: Recovery left the scene at 9.30am.
