Officers investigating a serious crash on the A602 which has left a motorcyclist in a critical condition are appealing for the public’s help to establish what caused the biker to fall.

A 48-year-old man was travelling southbound on his Yamaha motorbike at about 5.45am this morning when he fell from his bike on Ware Road while approaching the roundabout for the A119 and Watton-at-Stone.

The motorcyclist was initially taken to Lister Hospital in Stevenage with very serious injuries to the abdomen and head, and multiple fractured bones.

He has since been transferred to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where he remains in a critical condition.

The A602 was shut for in both directions for a number of hours, before reopening fully by 11am.

A police spokesman has said that it is not yet clear what caused the motorcyclist to fall from his bike and for anyone who witnessed the incident – or the events leading up to it – to get in touch with PC Shona Gillen from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Forensic Collision Investigation Unit.

If you have information you can contact PC Gillen via 101 or by calling 01438 757500.
