The A1(M) has reopened following a crash on the southbound Stevenage stretch which saw a motorcyclist taken to hospital.
Police and ambulance personnel were called shortly after 10am after a white Citroen Dispatch van collided with a blue Kawasaki motorcycle on the southbound carriageway between Junction 8 and 7 for Stevenage.
Due to motorists’ concerns about the motorcyclist’s injuries, a rapid response vehicle, ambulance and ambulance officer were all dispatched and the motorway shut at Junction 8.
On arrival the motorcyclist – a woman in her 20s – was conscious and breathing, but she was taken to Lister Hospital in the town in a brace as a precaution for spinal injuries. She was later discharged.
The A1(M) reopened shortly before 11am.
UPDATE: Previously police stated that it was believed only a motorcyclist was involved, but have since told the Comet a white Citroen Dispatch van collided with the motorbike.
