Two people were injured in a crash involving a lorry and a van between Hitchin and Barton-le-Clay this morning, police have confirmed.

Police were called to the scene on the B655 Barton Road near Hexton at 11am, with ambulance crews and the fire service also called.

The road was closed in both directions while crews deal with what the road policing unit tweeted would be a “very tricky recovery”, and reopened at about 1.20pm.

Firefighters helped make the scene safe and assisted the casualties until the paramedics arrived.

An ambulance crew treated a man described as in his 50s for suspected chest injuries, and took him to Stevenage’s Lister Hospital for further care.
