A TRAILER containing human waste has flipped onto its roof after colliding with the A1(M) central reservation - causing delays in both directions.
A white Land Rover Defender towing a trailer carrying portable toilets crashed at about 9.45am today (Wednesday) between junction six for Welwyn and junction seven for Stevenage, landing on its roof.
The driver was trapped in the vehicle and heavy cutting equipment was used by firefighters to free him.
Two-and-a-half thousand litres of sewage was spilt on to the motorway as a result of the crash, and lanes were closed in both directions.
The Land Rover has since been recovered and the Highways Agency is working with the Environment Agency to make the A1(M) safe before all lanes are reopened.
