TRAIN services were delayed this afternoon, after a railway bridge was struck by a vehicle.
Police received reports of a vehicle – thought to be a lorry – striking the railway bridge on Cadwell Lane, Hitchin, at about midday.
It is thought that a piece of metal was sticking out of the vehicle, which scraped along the inside of the bridge.
London King’s Cross to Cambridge/Peterborough train services were delayed as a result while Network Rail checked out the problem.
No damage was found, and services shortly resumed.
