CONCERN has been voiced over drivers speeding on an estate and parking dangerously outside a primary school.

Les Wilshire, who lives on Clothall Common, Baldock, said: "A few people have mentioned about parked cars when people are picking children up from Hartsfield School [on Clothall Road].

"The way they park makes it awkward to drive round and children also walk in between cars.

"I think people don't realise children can't cross the road without edging out into the road.

"A few parents have said that nothing will be done until something bad happens."

He added: "I also think there's a problem with speeding on the estate and I think it's dangerous.

"Children can just run out and you don't have a chance to stop.

"We need to make people aware and we need something to slow people down.

"I have spoken to the police to see if they can come up and remind people it's not a race track but I'm waiting to hear from them.

"People pay money for policing and they don't seem to get a lot back here. "We seem to be the poor relation."

Pc Steve Gibbs, of the Baldock community team, said: "We are in constant contact with the local councillor. Following some recent concerns, we have carried out a speeding reduction exercise and over a dozen parking tickets have been issued."

At the time of going to press, the councillor for Baldock East, Marilyn Kirkland, was unavailable for comment.
