A 16-strong team of staff from Stevenage-based Towergate Insurance and their families tramped along the Thames to help raise funds in support of the UK’s biggest foster care awareness campaign.

Foster Care Fortnight is organised by fostering charity The Fostering Network and the Towergate team, based in London Road, are specialists in providing cover for foster carers.

They joined more than 350 other fundraisers for the 5km walk which began by London Bridge and passed some of the capital’s most famous landmarks including HMS Belfast, The Globe Theatre, Tate Modern and the London Eye.

The firm’s marketing manager Helen Bernabe said: “We were proud to be involved, as specialists in providing policies for foster carers this is something which is close to our hearts and we couldn’t wait to step up to the challenge.

“So far the Towergate team has raised more than £500, with one donation coming in on the way to the event from someone who spotted our sales director Jason Brown and his children dressed in bright orange T-shirts and sponsored them on the spot!”
