A top TV chef is set to host a prestigious Gastropub awards night as a popular Hitchin bar and restaurant in the new year.

Chef Tom Kerridge, who has appeared on the Great British Menu, MasterChef and Saturday Kitchen, will be hosting the Top 50 Gastropub Awards evening at the Hermitage Road Bar and Kitchen in Hitchin.

Howard Nye, operations director for Anglia Country Inns which runs the bar and restaurant on Hermitage Road, said: “We are absolutely delighted, it’s wonderful news Tom Kerridge is coming here. It’s great someone like him can come and pay a visit to little Hitchin. His attendance is great recognition – it puts Hitchin on the map.

“Because our group has won a few gongs over the years the organisers of the event know about us in Hitchin, and they again decided to choose us as hosts of the awards.

“It’s a huge honour for us to be highlighted in this way. All our hard working and dedicated staff here get such a kick from it. They all get such a massive buzz from people like Tom visiting. They are so excited they are looking forward to the awards night in January already!”

In 2012 Kerridge won a second Michelin star and in 2013 he presented his own BBC Two food programme called Tom Kerridge’s Proper Pub Food. He also hosted Spring Kitchen earlier this year on BBC One.

The closing date for entries is tomorrow, Friday, and pubs should visit www.top50gastropub.co.uk.
