Hitchin Town FC is hosting its annual Ladies Day at Top Field today – and all female fans will get in free to the Canaries home league game against Slough Town.

Hitchin Town Ladies manager Mel Blackmore said: “We’d like to encourage and invite as many girls and ladies along to Top Field as possible.

“On entrance they will be given a raffle ticket. Girls and mums will also be racing each other across the pitch at half time.

“We have also organised for a dance group - Bex Crew – to attend.

“I don’t think there’s enough advertising for the women’s game. There’s a worry that girls when they reach a certain age, drop out of the sport. We’re trying to keep them in it.

“We’re linking our event to Breast Cancer Awareness Day and will hopefully get as many people wearing pink as possible to show their support.“

Before today’s game, Mel is overseeing a free football session at North Herts Arena in Baldock from 12-2pm for girls aged 7-13. The hope is that players will then join her at Top Field from 3pm.
