IT’S FLOWER power for Comet country baby names as Lily came out on top for the second year running.

Lily was the most popular girls’ name in 2012 for tots registered at the Stevenage Registration Office, which covers the town and North Hertfordshire.

Charlie was the favourite for boys, knocking Harry off top spot in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year.

“Following the success of the Olympics, we might have expected to see Usain or Bradley making an appearance but 2012 has seen most people sticking to traditional names,” said cllr Richard Thake.

“Many parents choose a religious ceremony to celebrate the birth and naming of their child but those looking for an alternative could consider a civil naming ceremony organised by Hertfordshire’s registration service.”
