Hitchin enjoyed a flashback to the Jurassic period on Sunday when a stegosaurus strutted her stuff in the town centre.
Tiny the Stegosaurus, accompanied by palaeontologist Susanna Stone, put on three fun and informative shows for dinosaur lovers of all ages in Market Place.
The pre-historic visitor – cleverly controlled from within, with sound effects and facial animatronics – was more than a little convincing, with at least one of the younger children trying to feed her.
The dozens of children, parents and grandparents on hand were filled in on some of the facts about dinosaurs, with Susanna also inviting them to come up with some theories of their own.
She explained that the name ‘stegosaurus’ means ‘roofed lizard’, and comes from the early theory that the plates on the dinosaur’s back lay flat and overlapped like tiles on a roof.
Susanna also recruited four lucky children from the audience to keep Tiny company as a dinosaur herd, with all of them giving impressive dino roars.
Those watching the Hitchin BID-organised show included town centre manager Keith Hoskins, who deemed the show “brilliant”.
