Three people had to be rescued from a burning block of flats in Ickleford near Hitchin in the early hours of this morning.
Fire crews from Hitchin, Stevenage and Baldock tackled the blaze in a ground floor flat in Icknield Close around 2am.
Firefighters used breathing apparatus, hoses and a main jet to put out the flames, but not before the fire had spread to a second property on the first floor of the three storey block.
It is understood one person has been taken to hospital with burns to their leg.
An investigation into the cause of the blaze is being carried out today.
