Thousands of people have opposed controversial plans to expand Luton onto Herts Green Belt.
The scheme to build 5,500 homes on an area of countryside to the east of Luton by Luton Borough and Central Beds councillors has been strongly opposed by residents in Herts and Beds.
Initial figures made available today (Monday) by North Herts District Council show around 7,500 people wrote to the Luton and Central Beds joint planning committee responsible for the plans during the public consultation period which ended last month.
This made up the vast bulk of the estimated 9,000 representations made for the wider scheme around Luton.
