Thieves target nine vehicles overnight in Letchworth, stealing one of them

The thefts, in Bursland, Hallmead, Monklands and Mullway, happened between 11.30pm on Saturday and 9.30am – with cash and other items stolen along with a red Toyota Yaris.

Sgt Alan Clarke, from the Letchworth safer neighbourhood team, said: “I am appealing to anyone who believes they saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area overnight on Saturday to get in touch.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to remind motorists to ensure their vehicles are left secure and to remove all valuables.

“This type of crime is unusual in Letchworth and patrols have been increased in the local area while officers work to identify those responsible for these offences.

“If you have any information that you believe could assist the investigation, please contact police.”

The individual offences, which all occurred between 11pm on Saturday and 9.30am on Sunday, are as follows:

• Bursland – a red Totoya Yaris was stolen: crime reference G2/17/697

• Bursland – a wallet and car key were stolen from a black Peugeot 308: crime reference G2/17/700

• Bursland – cash was stolen from a silver Range Rover: crime reference G2/17/701

• Bursland – thieves searched inside a vehicle parked on a driveway but nothing was taken: crime reference G2/17/708

• Bursland – a bag of glue was stolen from a van: G2/17/710

• Hallmead – cash and an iPhone were stolen from a bronze Kia Magentis: crime reference G2/17/705

• Monklands – an index plate was stolen from a blue Vauxhall Vectra: crime reference G2/17/704

• Mullway – a pair of trainers were stolen from a black Vauxhall Astra: crime reference G2/17/702

• Mullway – cash and a bank card were stolen from a white BMW: crime reference G2/17/699
