A LARGE amount of metal cabling has been stolen from an electricity compound after thieves cut through a metal fence.

The theft occurred sometime between Saturday and Monday, July 14-16, at UK Power Networks’ site in Baldock Road, Letchworth GC.

Police officers have now launched an appeal to trace the offenders, who are believed to have made several trips to the compound.

Pc Laura Bignell, who is leading the investigation, said: “To steal metal of any kind is a serious offence, especially metal cabling from a compound where live electricity is present. I am appealing to the public to help trace the offender(s).

“If you have any information regarding this crime, please ring Herts Police non-emergency number 101 quoting the crime reference number G2/12/1323.”
