Someone broke into a parked car to steal a suitcase in Hitchin last night – but may have been disappointed to find it was empty.

Police said the theft happened between 8.25pm and 9.40pm, in Grammar School Walk, with the thief afterwards making off in an unknown direction.

The car was a silver Saab, whose rear windscreen was found smashed. Officers said an empty burgundy suitcase was stolen.
