Two soldiers from the film series Star Wars paid a visit to Wilko on Bancroft on Saturday – enthralling earthlings from North Herts in the process.

It wasn’t so much a case of fear is the path to the Dark Side – as two Stormtroopers in aisle five – when Chris Dear and Duncan Ramsey donned the uniform of the main ground force of the Galactic Empire.

The cunning stunt organised by store manager David Longhurst was to publicise Wilko’s stocking DVDs again – and raising £100 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Stormtroopers made a dramatic entrance as assistant manager Sharna Dryden explained: “They couldn’t walk downstairs so they had to get a lift to the shop floor. As the doors opened we played the Imperial March!” The pair then stocked up on everyday items to the delight of youngsters before, perplexed, they took a Star Wars-branded duvet to the tills. Sharna added: “It was great fun and we raised money for charity.”
