THE Prince of Wales and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, gave a Sandy couple the thrill of their lives on Tuesday afternoon.

Ken Lynch, a staunch campaigner for the elderly and youth in Biggleswade and Sandy, was accompanied by his wife Audrey to the annual summer garden party at Buckingham Palace.

Even though they were among 8,000 guests they were lucky enough to have a brief chat with the royal couple.

The highlight of their day came when wheelchair bound Audrey was asked to join a line-up of other disabled people to meet the royal group which also included the Queen.

The royal party stopped and chatted briefly to Ken and his wife asking where they lived and were they enjoying themselves.

"It was a brilliant day, one we will both remember for the rest of our lives," said Mr Lynch who lives in Pymms Way, Sandy.

"With so many people there we never thought we would actually meet any of the royal family so having a few words with Prince Charles and Camilla was wonderful.

"Audrey and I shook hands with Camilla and the Prince of Wales and they asked where we came from and they seemed to know where Sandy was.

"Camilla is such a nice person, very charming. She wore a turquoise dress and looked wonderful and was so nice to both of us.

"Audrey was also interviewed by a reporter from the New York Times so a lot of people heard about Sandy on Tuesday.

"To top it all the food was wonderful and I am now writing to the Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire Samuel Whitebread to tell him how grateful we are for inviting us and the great memories we shall always have of our day at the palace.
