At Stagenhoe Park caters for those with neurological disorders such as stroke and Huntington's disease and has been chosen by Simon Speller, Stevenage's Mayor as one of his mayoral charities. On August 15 he started on a 1,168 mile sponsored cycle marathon from Land's End to John O'Groats visiting Sue Ryder care centres and hospices along the route. Last Saturday he was at Stagenhoe where a fundraising afternoon had been planned. Other local dignitaries were there to welcome him when he cycled in on a dreadful afternoon of heavy showers. A Dog Show was one of the events organised for the afternoon and happily that was lucky in that it rained before and after the judging. Some 40 dogs were entered for at least one class which was a very good turnout considering the weather. The Scouts had provided a barbecue to keep everyone sustained and warm. Numerous other events have been planned for Simon's mayoral year and it is hoped that the home will benefit to the tune of around £5,000.
