Was dominated by weeds! Complaints from councillors, residents and visitors regarding weeds on the pavements have fallen on stony ground. The County Council, which is the responsible authority for weed clearance on the highway, will only clear those in the gullies and edge of the pavement annually due to budgetary restraints, this should be done soon. Two representatives from Ameys attended the Service and Maintenance committee where several of the committee's concerns were discussed , namely Ivel Road, Southfields, South Bridge Street, Church Walk and the volume of vegetation growing through the town's pavements and gullies. The representatives explained how the weed spraying operation would be carried out and offered further information as to their limited budget. The dead tree outside the off licence in the High Street is to be removed and replaced by a more suitable specimen during the next planting season. Play areas, the annual risk assessment had been carried out, any remedial work required will be carried out. St Michael's play area, funding for items to replace those which have recently had to be removed is to be sourced. Bus shelters, information from the County Councillor indicates that there is a scheme in force whereby Parish Councils may be able to obtain part funding towards them. Bearing this in mind the council intends to apply for funding for shelters. The site for a Vehicle Activated Sign for Hitchin Road has been agreed.
