A crash outside a Hitchin school this afternoon has led to a busy road being temporarily blocked.

The two-car collision, which occurred near to Kingshott School on the A602 Stevenage Road just after 2.20pm today, has seen large traffic tailbacks in and out of the town at school-pick up time.

The cars involved were a black Citroen DS4 and a blue Peugeot 208.

A driver at the scene told the Comet: “The front end of the Peugeot was smashed in. You could see the engine as the bonnet was folded backwards from the impact of the crash.

“The back bumper of the Citroen was also damaged, but not as badly.”

No-one was injured but a police spokesman advised drivers to use alternative routes if at all possible.
