A pair of teenage students are holding bake sales, quizzes and more to raise funds towards an £8,000 trip to volunteer in Tanzania.

Millie Stollery and Charlotte Barber, who are both in Year 11 at Samuel Whitbread Academy, are fundraising towards a target of £4,000 each to work on community, environmental and wildlife projects as part of a month-long CAMPS International trip set for 2018.

So far their activities have included bake sales in Letchworth and Hitchin and selling sweet cones at Jordans Mill, near Biggleswade – and their next fundraising initiative is a quiz night at the Stotfold Conservative Club on Saturday, March 4.

Charlotte said: “We each have to raise £4000 for the month-long trip, where we will help the local communities by assisting with community development projects.

“We’ll also do wildlife preservation and environmental projects, though we are not sure what these will be.

“As well as having a wonderful chance to help others, we have the option to go on a short safari and learn to scuba dive.”

The girls have been assisted by Millie’s mother, who runs Apple Paddock Artisan Preserves in Stotfold.
