Teenager dies after ‘tragic accident’ at Hitchin’s Blueharts Hockey Club

A teenage boy has died after a ‘tragic accident’ at Hitchin’s Blueharts Hockey Club on Thursday night.
Emergency services were called to the club in Lucas Lane at 7.32pm, to reports of a teenager being taken seriously ill.
Police, the ambulance service and the air ambulance all attended the scene. He was taken to Cambridge’s Addenbrooke’s Hospital in a critical condition, but he has now sadly passed away.
In a statement, Blueharts Hockey Club said: “We are deeply saddened to confirm the loss of one of our junior members following a tragic accident which occurred at a training session last night.
“This is an incredibly sad and difficult time for everyone involved. The club is working closely to support those directly affected by the events of last night.
“As a mark of respect, all training and matches will be cancelled this weekend, including mini’s training and presentation on Sunday. The end of season event has been postponed until further notice.
“The clubhouse is open today and will be all of this weekend. Please do come and be amongst friends. The club has arranged for trained counsellors from the Samaritans to be in attendance at the clubhouse tomorrow between 12 noon and 3pm.
“The club would like to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the junior member’s family, friends and all of those impacted by the events of last night.
“This is a devastating time and we ask that their privacy is respected. We also ask for your patience, understanding and thoughts as we work through the coming days.”
