A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of GBH after an assault in Hitchin town centre last night that left a man in hospital with a serious eye injury.

Officers were called at 2.58am this morning to reports that a 19-year-old man had been assaulted in Market Place, causing what police have called a ‘serious injury to his eye’.

A 17-year-old man from Letchworth was arrested on suspicion of GBH, and remains in police custody. The victim is still in hospital.

A police cordon remained in place by the entrance of nightspot Osinsky’s until about 10am this morning, with eyewitnesses reporting the presence of a forensic unit.
