A 16-year-old girl was taken to Lister Hospital this afternoon after she fell from a horse while riding in a country lane at Clay End near Walkern.

The East of England Ambulance Service was alerted at 3.05pm and ambulance crews from Stevenage and Letchworth GC and an air ambulance attended the scene.

Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson, who attended the incident, said: "On our arrival, the young girl was lying in the road and being cared for by her friends. Paramedics and a doctor from the helicopter stabilised her at the roadside and treated her for injuries to her back and head. She was then conveyed to the Lister Hospital by land ambulance.
