A teenager from Letchworth GC has spent the weekend collecting for this year's Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal with her dress decorated with poppies.

Kara Lee, 15, a pupil at St Francis College, Letchworth GC, made the costume for a school fashion show and based it on a soldier's uniform from the First World War.

The poppies were kindly donated by the Royal British Legion.

"She also made a young girl's dress for the show in the style of the time using white poppies. At the time she was unaware of white poppies being symbolic of anti-war," said her mother Mrs Andrea Lee.

"She had the idea of spraying the poppies white to represent the innocent youth for whom the soldier laid down his life and for the peace he hoped would come about because of his sacrifice.
