STEVENAGE county councillor Sharon Taylor has become the first woman leader of a county Labour group.
She will also be the group's spokesman on resources and the environment.
Another Stevenage county councillor, John Lloyd, will speak for Labour on adult care services and community safety.
"Although our numbers were greatly reduced at the recent elections, we will continue to challenge the Tory administration at County Hall on vital issues such as road maintenance, activities for young people and care of the elderly, and I hope we will carry on punching above our weight," said Cllr Taylor who is also leader of Stevenage Borough Council.
