A drink-driver who was at the wheel on a country road near Hitchin while more than four times the alcohol limit has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Peter Keane, of London Road near Hitchin, had 155 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath when he drove an Audi on that stretch on September 27. The limit is 35.

The 51-year-old pleaded guilty to drink-driving when he appeared before Stevenage magistrates last week.

Chairman of the bench Stephen Godshaw sentenced him to 18 weeks behind bars, suspended for 24 months, and also banned him from driving for 36 months.

Keane must pay £85 costs and £115 surcharge.
