A suspected drug dealer from Hitchin has been arrested after officers executed a warrant in the town, seizing what are thought to be class B drugs and associated gear.

Officers from North Herts’ Operation Scorpion team entered a flat in Chaucer Way at about 11am on Tuesday last week, and seized three bags of suspected class B drugs – as well as drugs paraphernalia including electronic scales, deal bags and mobile phones.

No-one was there when officers carried out the raid, but after further investigations a 53-year-old Hitchin man was arrested later that day on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class B drugs.

More drugs were found by officers during his arrest. He has been released pending further investigations.

Sgt Jon Vine from the Operation Scorpion team said: “Although drug-related crime in Hitchin is low, we are determined to drive it out and will deal robustly with anyone believed to be involved in such offences.

“Through our own investigations and information from the public, we can work together to keep Hitchin safe – and I would therefore strongly encourage people to always report suspicious activity to us should they come across it.”

Crime or suspicious activity can be reported to police on the non-emergency number 101, or call 999 if you witness an offence in progress. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
