A police dog helped track down and arrest a suspected burglar in Hitchin last night after a vehicle failed to stop for officers.

The 30-year-old suspect, a man from Hitchin, was detained in Redhill Road shortly after 10.30pm – with police dog Dexter of the Beds, Cambs and Herts Police Dog Unit supporting police during the pursuit.

The man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police, possession of an offensive weapon, possession of cannabis, driving while under the influence of cannabis, and conspiracy to burgle.

Police said this morning that he remained in custody.
