A suspected arson attack has left the Hitchin Lawn Tennis Club pavilion in ruins.
Two fire engines from Hitchin were called to the blaze in Bancroft Park after the alarm was raised shortly before 4am on Saturday morning.
On arrival the wooden club house, which measures 10 by five metres, was well alight.
The 15 fire fighters had difficulty accessing the fire and had poor water supplies, but managed to put the fire out just after 5am.
Investigation dogs from London were later used, and the fire declared suspicious.
No-one was involved.
