A summit is being held to look at how volunteering can counter the effects of public spending cuts in Comet country.
All those involved and interested in the voluntary sector in Stevenage are being invited to have their say on the future of community work in the town at the Stevenage Voluntary Sector Summit on Saturday January 22.
Organised by the borough council and Stevenage Community Voluntary Sector Support, the event is aimed at raising awareness of the Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review on the sector and identify options for the future.
Sherma Batson, executive member for community, health and older people at the council, said: “The object of the day is to look ahead and see how we can ensure that we continue to have a viable third sector in Stevenage. The sector will undoubtedly be affected by cuts in government funding, but this may also provide the sector with new opportunities.
“I hope that people will come along to the summit to look at the challenges which lie ahead and to help to shape the future of the voluntary sector in Stevenage.”
The event will be held at North Herts College Stevenage campus from 9.30am to 2.30pm.
Anyone interested in attending should ring 01438 242457 or email consultation@stevenage.gov.uk before January 14.
