FIREFIGHTERS do not think the latest proposals by Herts County Council are good enough to prevent Saturday's strike action.

Hertfordshire fire crews delayed the start of their strike action, planned for Monday, to allow time to receive and consider proposals put to their negotiators during talks.

But the planned strike for Saturday from 2pm until 10pm is still believed to be going ahead.

Hertfordshire FBU vice-chairman Tony Smith said: "We approached these talks with the same professionalism, courage and clear-thinking determination that we bring to firefighting and rescues."

He said as of yesterday (Wednesday) they were planning to go ahead with the strike on Saturday.

Hertfordshire County Council said it was pleased Monday's strike was suspended after talks but added that it had not received any update about further strikes.
