POLICE are focussing on a town’s drugs problem following a 266 per cent increase in drugs offences.

Speaking at Stotfold Town Council’s annual town meeting on Thursday, Bedfordshire Police’s Sergeant Gary Kidd said: “I’m particularly concerned about the drugs problem in the town.

“Drugs, I have always believed, are the root of most crimes, so I’m very keen to do something about the problem.

“We are trying to arrest as many offenders as we can, to get them away from here.

“Enquiries are ongoing and we are trying to link with other areas to get rid of the problem.

“The increase in drugs offences is from three last year to 11 this year. That’s a huge increase - up by 266 per cent.

“We want to get the message across that drugs will not be tolerated.”
