A Stotfold woman has raised nearly £10,000 for Garden House Hospice Care with an evening of prosecco and pampering, in memory of beloved mum and grandmother.
Carly Tiplady and friend Jen Powell held the event with the aim of raising £2,000 for the hospice.
The 34-year-old told the Comet: “I decided to organise and host this event in memory of my dear mum, Bev, who passed away in June after a nine-year battle with cancer.
“I have done many events over the years to raise money for cancer charities, but this one was by far the most challenging – mainly because for all the others I have had my mum with me.
“My mum was transferred to Garden House Hospice Care in May. From the moment we came through the door we were made to feel at home and my mum was made to feel as comfortable as possible.
“My brother, dad and I stayed by mum’s side every day and night for six weeks and GHHC became a second home for us and our children.
“I felt that when mum passed away I needed to do something big to say thank you.”
Carly and good friend Jen Powell came up with the idea of hosting a ‘Ladies Pamper, Prosecco and Shopping Evening’.
The pair enlisted the help of 20 beauty therapists for the event – which was held at the Stotfold Greenacre Centre – who offered various treatments, as well as 16 stall holders selling locally hand-made products.
“We sold out at 100 tickets and also had a huge raffle with over 100 prizes donated by very generous local businesses,” Carly continued.
“After a few hiccups, everything came together smoothly.
“I have some amazing close friends and family that helped in the build up and on the night itself.
“Our target was to raise £2,000 – but we completely smashed it and our final amount raised was £9,260”
Garden House Hospice Care provides palliative care for patients, families and carers who face life limiting illnesses from across the North Herts district and surrounding areas.
It relies on a charitable income of £2 million a year to be able run services such as inpatient care, hospice at home, the Hawthorne Centre and its family support service.
