A mosaic heritage trail created by schoolchildren and social housing tenants is set to adorn town centre walls in Sandy, Potton and Biggleswade – and locals are invited to have their say on the designs.

The Story in Stone project can count on the talents of mosaic artist Oliver Budd, who has called for community input to design the nine mosaics, with three in each town.

The mosaics will be made locally using the creative talents of pupils from all the lower and middle schools in the three towns, with residents from Aragon Housing Association and Biggleswade’s Millers Court and Victoria Court also taking part.

Oliver will be on hand during community drop-in sessions at Robert Peel Lower School in Sandy on Wednesday from 4pm to 8.30pm, with a presentation of the designs also on display.

An example of Oliver’s work is already on display in Biggleswade – a large circular mosaic on the wall of the Sainsbury’s car park.

And the designs for the heritage trail mosaics are to be derive from heritage information supplied by history societies in each town.

The mosaics will created during workshops running from January 2017 to February 2018, with the mosaic panels being installed in three phases from May 2017 to February 2018.

The Sandy Town Council-led project is partially funded by a grant of £255,000 from Central Beds Council’s £4 million Market Towns Regeneration Fund.
