Stevenage Boro manager Mark Stimson's exclusive monthly column for The Comet

Over the Easter period at the start of the month, we had two games against Morecambe and Forest Green.

We were left frustrated because in both games we were ahead.

We were leading Morecambe by 3-1 with half an hour to go.

It was disappointing to get pegged back but in that game there was a big decision against us.

The ball didn't cross the line but a goal was still given. It can happen and these things normally even themselves out over a season.

On the Monday game, after a disappointing first 20 minutes and being 3-0 down, the players showed great belief and in the 81st minute we were 4-3 up through Steve Morison.

Then in the fourth minute of injury time, a deflected shot flew into the top corner!

This left a mountain to climb in the remaining five fixtures.

The next fixtures saw us come out with maximum points - 3-0 against Tamworth and 1-0 against Rushden. These two were pleasing in keeping clean sheets.

We then took on the big one - Exeter at home. We needed to win to put us in a very strong position. Unfortunately the game was a 0-0 draw. We created two or three good chances but it wasn't to be.

So going into the last two away fixtures, we needed six points and 12 goals! It was always going to be an impossible task.

There was a point at Northwich and defeat at Halifax where we rested some players to give others an opportunity to get their fitness levels up.

To summarise the season, there was a frustrating first eight or nine games.

After two games I realised we had to change the attack. So by signing Steve Morison from Bishop's Stortford and moving George Boyd from left wing to centre forward, this gave us a lot more mobility and flair in the final third. I thought this would cause our opponents big problems.

After our first win against Stafford Rangers at home by 6-0, unfortunately we faced an Aldershot team on the night which played possibly the best football I've seen this season. So we came back to earth with a 4-0 defeat!

After this we stuck to our beliefs of the passing game and slowly got some league points on the board.

After disappointingly going out of the FA Cup to Wrexham, we then put a fantastic run together which lasted until the new year with some very entertaining and encouraging displays.

Again, unfortunately, the transfer window opened and we lost a very special player in George Boyd. His value was shown by Peterborough giving us £260,000.

He is not an easy type of player to replace so we signed a couple of players to have some variations of playing.

Full credit to the players that have come in. They kept us in the hunt for the play-offs until the last week of the season.

To coincide with that, they put us into a cup final that will go down in history at the fantastic new Wembley Stadium.

About next season, we are already talking to players like many other clubs.

The league is not going to get any easier but if we can start better, and add more quality to our squad, I think we will be looking for another entertaining season and to make progress.

We will be keeping 14 of this season's squad and look to bring in three or four more with a couple of youngsters as well.
