Stevenage was awarded 100,000 today (Friday) to help revitalise the town centre.
The money, part of a 10m government High Street Innovation Fund, was given to the borough council to help kick start new businesses and bring empty high street properties back into use.
The news comes on the last day for entries to the Mary Portas Pilot scheme to regenerate 12 town centres across the UK. The vast majority of the shopping gurus recommendations were agreed by ministers today.
The council awaits the result of its application to be chosen for the project.
