Stephen McPartland took the marginal seat with 18,491 votes, a clear majority over Stevenage Borough Council leader Sharon Taylor, who polled 14,913.
Julia Davies (Lib Dem) polled 7,432, Marion Mason (UKIP) 2,004, Michael Green (BNP) 1,007, Stephen Phillips (No Candidate Deserves My Vote) 327, Andrew Ralph (Your Right to Democracy) 31, Charles Vickers (Eng Dem) 366 and David Cox 80.
