Stevenage target Chris Whelpdale has been offered a new contract by Gillingham.
Yet according to reports the winger could reject the new deal and opt for a summer move to Boro instead.
According to the Kent Messenger the 25-year-old, who has played 122 times for the Gills, is said to be keen on a move to the Lamex Stadium.
The winger is on Stevenage’s wanted list as manager Graham Westley looks to rebuild his squad following the club’s relegation to League 2.
