A prolific thief from Stevenage has been jailed for a year after he admitted a long string of offences including stealing a county council staff pass.

Rodney Marks, of Prestatyn Close, pleaded guilty to 11 counts of theft, 11 counts of fraudulently using stolen bank cards, and another of interfering with a motor vehicle – with the crimes committed in Stevenage between February and July this year.

The 49-year-old also admitted driving a Vauxhall Vectra along the A505 in Stopsley on April 23 while disqualified from driving and without a licence or insurance.

Stevenage magistrates chaired by Judy Howlett found there to be “no other appropriate sentence” due to Marks’ previous offending. He was already subject to two conditional discharge orders, imposed in November and January for other shop thefts in Stevenage.

In addition to the jail sentence, Marks must pay a total of £329.81 in compensation.
