Armand Gnanduillet is not happy with his two goal brace against Leyton Orient – because the striker wanted a third.

Having been on the bench when his side fell behind to a Jay Simpson penalty, the striker came on to the pitch to get two goals of his own before Simpson’s late, injury-time strike made the game 2-2.

But straight from kick-off Stevenage booted the ball forward and after Jamille Matt was denied the opportunity to fire Boro to all three points by a last-ditch tackle, the ball rolled to Gnanduillet who had the goal in his sight – only to hit the side netting.

And although pleased with his two goals, the striker, on loan from Chesterfield, was disappointed not to win his side all three points with a hat-trick.

“I am very disappointed because I had the chance to score a third on at the end but I missed it. [I was disappointed] with the result; I can’t be happy just because I scored,” Gnanduillet said.

“The last game [a 3-1 defeat to Dagenham] we weren’t very good, and [against Orient] we played well and deserved to win. It’s very unlucky to give away two points away like that.”

Gnanduillet’s second goal saw him run on to a delightful chipped through ball from Ben Kennedy, and the striker acknowledges his team-mates quality.

“He’s a good player and as soon as he’s got the ball I just knew that he’d chip it in, he’s a clever player,” the on-loan forward said.

“I tried to shoot quickly. I thought about taking a second touch but with the pitch I knew it was a good decision to shoot. I just tried to put the ball away from the keeper.”
