Retrospective planning permission for a gym has been refused, leaving the owners facing an enforcement notice to stop using the building for that purpose.

No Bull Fitness in Boulton Road in Stevenage opened last October, but permission to change the building’s use from D1 (training centre) to D2 (gymnasium) has been refused by Stevenage Borough Council because “the benefits the existing use generates do not outweigh the loss of this premises which is considered to have office use.

“The fact there is likely to be demand for office and commercial floorspace over the emerging Local Plan period would put increasing pressure on a limited supply of employment space to accommodate any future growth for the town.

“It has not been demonstrated the gym could not be accommodated in available premises within preferable sites.”

Gym co-owner Alex Game said: “We are in the process of appealing.”
