Vicky Lovelace-Collins was riding her silver Honda motorcycle when she was involved in a collision in Lonsdale Road at the junction with Webb Rise in Stevenage on Wednesday.

A silver Vauxhall Insignia was also involved in the incident, which occurred at about 4.50pm and saw an air ambulance land on a grassy patch on the corner of Webb Rise.

Vicky, who had been a paramedic for 15 years and was currently based in Stevenage, was airlifted to hospital, but it has since been confirmed she sadly died on Friday.

The 37-year-old had been due to face one of her biggest fears on Sunday and do a tandem skydive to raise money for Letchworth-based Garden House Hospice Care.

When the Comet spoke with Vicky in March, she said the skydive was in recognition of her father’s brave battle with leukaemia, which he lost in May.

Donations to Vicky’s fundraising page have been flooding in since news of her death and the total raised now stands at more than £8,000.

Dozens of tributes have been paid to Vicky, who stood as a Green Party candidate for the Pin Green ward in this year’s Stevenage elections.

On Twitter she described herself as “passionate about the planet, animal welfare, and a fairer society for all”.

A post on a Facebook page dedicated to UK paramedics reads: “We cannot begin to imagine how difficult a time this must be for those who knew and loved her and our thoughts are with all of Vicky’s family.

“Our thoughts also go out to our brothers and sisters at the East of England Ambulance Service, who had the pleasure of knowing Vicky and seeing how passionate and enthusiastic she was when it came to helping others through the difficult times in their lives.”

Police are working to establish the circumstances that led to the collision and would like to hear from any witnesses, or anyone who may have seen the events leading up to the incident.

If you can help, email Sergeant James Wood – from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit – on james.wood@herts.pnn.police.uk, or call him on the non-emergency number 101, quoting ISR 519 of September 5.
