AN annual music festival will not take place this year, it has just been announced.

Rock in the Park (RITP), held at Fairlands Valley Park in Stevenage, has been cancelled.

Ron Walker, chairman of the RITP committee, said the main reason for the cancellation "is one of concerns for safety with the lake being empty and the steep drops of the banks."

He said the decision was taken before Stevenage Borough Council (SBC) fenced off the lake.

Other issues cited were ones concerning fencing and marshalling.

Mr Walker also said SBC was unable to give financial support to this year's festival due to "budgetary constraints".

RITP did not go ahead last year either, but Mr Walker said it is set to take place in June next year.
