A 26-year-old man from Stevenage has been remanded into custody after being charged with a number of thefts from vehicles in Hitchin over the past week.

Stefan Jakeman – of Ditchmore Lane in Stevenage – was charged in connection with five thefts from vehicles in Hitchin’s Highover Way, King’s Road, Radcliffe Road, Orchard Road and Nursery Hill.

He also stands accused of stealing a bicycle in Nightingale Road and interfering with a vehicle in Benslow Lane. All the incidents have happened since the start of December.

Mr Jakeman was arrested yesterday and charged today. He has been remanded into custody and is set to appear before Stevenage magistrates next Wednesday, December 14.
