Detectives investigating a rape in Stevenage last year arrested a man from the town this morning.

Officers are currently questioning a 28-year-old in connection with the rape of a woman in her early 30s on a path alongside Chequers Bridge Road towards Fairview Road as she made her way to work at around 6.30am on March 24.

The attack was recreated on BBC’s Crimewatch programme in September in an attempt to find the man responsible.

Detective Inspector Steve Keating from the sexual offences investigation team said: “This has been a protracted investigation with a number of extensive enquiries conducted. I would ask anyone with further information about the incident which may assist this ongoing investigation to contact my team via the non-emergency number 0845 3300222.”
